Yes, we have tomatoes!

The tomatoes have arrived... and yes, they're supposed to be different colors--they're heirloom tomatoes. So, what to do with all these beauties? Here's what I've come up with so far...

My personal favorite, tomato salad (with feta, oregano, olive olive, salt & pepper).

The green beans are also starting to come in, so one night I teamed up the tomato salad with the beans and jasmine rice.

The classic blt on a lazy night.

On the weekends I get more ambitious, and here's the start of the first tomato sauce of the season. I decided to make roasted tomato sauce because it smells so darn good.

Here they are after they're roasted.

And last but not least, Martha's tomato tart, before cooking...

and after... bon apetit!

How do YOU beat the heat?

The weather has been brutal here in D.C.

To keep cool, Clyde recommends lying on your back and exposing your soft underside.

And Jen recommends chopping off all your hair!
No more hair on my neck! Yeah!

Meet Bonnie & Clyde

These are the outdoor kitties that live under our back stairs. I named them Bonnie & Clyde because they're robbing us blind (of cat food). They're the younger brother and sister of out indoor cat, Vince.

Bonnie is a bird killer. She was so little we were afraid that she wouldn't make it through the winter, but now she's bigger than her partner in crime.

Clyde is so cute he needed 2 photos. He follows me around the garden waiting for me to crouch down so he can touch my nose with his nose.

Nor'easter night

We had quite a storm with about 5 inches of rain in a few days. When I got home Ricardo had a big fire roaring in the fireplace.
What a treat to have one more cozy night in front of the fire.

Vince loved it, too!
